Non-Combatants at Enclave LARP

Battle sport such as Enclave LARP can be an exciting and thrilling adventure, and most will delight at the idea of swinging a sword and getting stuck into a melee with their friends. But we at Enclave Battle LARP make a point of inclusivity in our games; being in the thick of battle can be intimidating for some, or maybe a player just doesn't want to get right into the physicality of the game for various reasons. Maybe you're recovering from an injury, or have a medical condition, or maybe you're just not feeling like getting into combat today.

For those otherwise unable to get involved with a contact sport, Enclave Battle LARP offers the ability to still jump in and play alongside everyone else, with the inclusion of our 'non-combatant' rules.

A non-combatant player and their combatant ally walk together, carrying the banner to the other edge of the playing field, to win the round for their team.
A bright orange sash helps to protect a non-combatant from being struck, and a combat ally helps prevent an opponent from demanding their surrender!

How it works

A 'non-combatant' takes to the field wearing a bright orange sash, a clear and visible sign that says to every other player "Don't hit me!"

A non-combatant can still be 'defeated' by an opposing player; not by striking, but instead by the opposing player standing within melee combat distance, pointing their weapon and saying "I demand that you yield!" If the non-combatant hasn't got any allies nearby to fend off the opposing player: alas! The non-combatant has been defeated... without ever being in danger of being struck.

What can a non-combatant do?

Someone who has opted out of being struck in combat will, in fair play, opt out of striking others. But that is where the restrictions end.

A kneeling player looks up and smiles as a non-combatant healer comes to the rescue.
Non-combatants might not be able to deal damage on field, but they can certainly be a major benefit to their team in other ways, like healing downed fighters, or giving buffs and bonuses!

Non-combatants can use any and all of the non-damaging abilities of each of the player classes.

  • Healer? Every team will sing the praises of a dedicated healer bringing them back into the fray, or granting a short burst of invulnerability

  • Elementalist? Grant your allies with extra magical protection, or hinder your opponents by making their weapons incredibly heavy and slow them down.

  • Occultist? Bring the body of a fallen ally out from behind enemy lines, inflict nightmares on your opponents to send them fleeing, or return a fallen opponent to un-life to act as your personal guard.

  • Minstrel? Raise your team's banner high to rally and heal your allies, inspire them with your music to grant increased abilities of their own, or calm rampaging beasts to protect your team from devastation.

Unlike combat-players on field, who can only choose up to two specialty classes at a time, a non-combatant can perform all of the above listed abilities, as long as they have the required tools for the job. A non-combatant is the true Jack of All Trades!

A non-combatant's first game

You can start playing as a non-combatant from your very first game, and try out any of the non-combatant usable abilities our game has on offer over the course of the night (we can even provide the props, so if you don't have them don't worry!).

If it is your very first time playing at Enclave Battle LARP, non-combatants will still be required to go through safety training (just in case you DO feel like picking up a sword in future) but rest assured, your safety training will be specifically tailored to the non-combatant experience with our expert New Player Trainers. We're determined to keep our game accessible where possible, and can't wait to give more of you the opportunity to join in on the fun.

If you have any questions about non combatants or this specialised training, you can reach our team on our community discord, via e-mail, or by messaging our Facebook page.
