What are Fables?

As kids, fables were short stories we heard to help us understand the world. This is exactly what The Story Team are looking to achieve with Enclave Fables events, but instead of just hearing a story you'll get to be part of how it plays out.

Fables are short form events designed to spotlight a specific House, event, or location in The Enclave. Rather than bringing every House and Character together at the same time every time, Story Team will work with a smaller group of Houses or Players to create a story tailored to them. Other attendees will have the opportunity to experience role play as members of those communities, locals to the environment, or be part of new Antagonist Factions.

One off characters, not NPCs

Being part of a temporary faction doesn't mean you're not still creating your own character. The scope of character creation may be more limited than other Enclave events, needing to fit within t

he scenario being played out, but you’re free to bring whatever kind of motivations and personality you think would bring a person to that place.

Most importantly, the outcomes aren’t set in stone. An NPC’s role is to provide a specific experience for the other players, while your characters at Fables are still there to experience the scenario for themselves.

Why this format?

LARP worlds are full of creative details and lore, most of it contributed by the players, that can be almost inaccessible outside of the group that creates it. Especially for new players: Many of us have invited a friend to a LARP we’ve been enjoying for years and watch them struggle to make heads or tails of the lore that’s built up over the years. Fables is our answer to this. We want to make these stories more accessible and help share what our players have created, both for existing players wanting to explore something different and anybody looking to try LARP for the first time.

The variety of different houses also creates an equal variety of game types. Some will be more suited to combat, some to political manoeuvring, and others to fancy soirees. Players will be able to try out styles of play new to them without having to make the full commitment to new LARP worlds, characters, and costumes. We don’t know where all these avenues will lead yet, but we’re excited to find out.

What we need from you

You don't need to be an experienced LARPer to enjoy Fables. In fact they're designed to be easy to access. The events come with strong RP prompts to help guide you, and the costuming requirements are little to none. All you’ll need is a basic, unobtrusive outfit that you can move in. Simple cotton pants, a belt, and a shirt or tunic in plain colours is plenty. Enclave will provide you with key items to tie the faction together, like a fur mantle or belt sashes, so all you need to do is blend in with the group. If you’ve got an incredible costume that fits the description, that’s fantastic and we encourage you to wear it, but we’re not expecting people to make anything elaborate for a one-off character.

More than anything, we’re hoping our players get fully invested in the events: Not making fully realized characters with back stories and intricate costumes (Though you’re absolutely welcome to) but just taking the scenario and running with it as hard as you can on the day. That’s what will bring these events to life more than anything else. You’ll have far more fun as a player going all in; the more the temporary factions are brought to life the more the world will flourish and the story grows.
